Gastroenteritis is a group of digestive problems caused by bacteria or their toxins or viruses. Symptoms appear suddenly and shortly after eating food containing pathogens.
Symptoms of gastroenteritis:
- abdominal pain
- vomiting
- diarrhea
- fever
- fatigue
- nausea
- constipation
- bloody stools
- indigestion
The duration of gastroenteritis symptoms depends on many factors, such as the cause of the infection, the patient’s health, and how quickly the body responds to treatment. In general, gastroenteritis symptoms usually last from 1 to 7 days. In the case of viral infections, such as noroviruses, the symptoms may resolve spontaneously within a few days. However, in young children, the elderly, or people with weakened immunity, the disease may last longer.
Test method: Real-time PCR (qPCR). The panel detects the presence of genetic material of pathogens in a stool sample.
