Układ moczowy obejmuje nerki, moczowody, pęcherz moczowy i cewkę moczową. Większość infekcji dotyczy dolnego układu moczowego, czyli pęcherza moczowego i cewki moczowej.

Kobiety są bardziej narażone na zakażenia układu moczowego niż mężczyźni. Infekcje te mogą jednak rozprzestrzenić się na nerki, co może prowadzić do poważnych problemów zdrowotnych.
